Leo the Lion, NK Leos and Lions at the Spooktacular

Poulsbo Lions enjoyed Poulsbo Parks and Recreation's Spooktacular today... 445 people! That beats 300 from last year at the parks and rec building on Front Street.

41 kids received free vision screening from our Lions - Karen Reitan, Steve Calhoun and David Risley - and some NK Leos were on hand to help at the event too!

Happy Halloween!

Poulsbo Lions sponsor Spooktacular!

We're excited to be a part of Poulsbo Parks and Recreation's Spooktacular. Last year, 300 people attended. This event is geared toward young children. There's a cupcake walk, games, coloring and more!

Poulsbo Lions will be vision screening and have a display of our community involvement, as well as Leo the Lion! Hope you can make it.

Loads of Change celebrates 6 years of service

Our Loads of Change team: Ray, Dennis, Lee, Terry and Ria

We hit 6 years of service with our Loads of Change project this month! To celebrate, we offered our clients pizza, bottled water and chocolate.

Lion Terry Blais started the service project after attending the Northwest Lions Leadership Conference  (NWLLC) in Vancouver, B.C. in 2018. Poulsbo Lions chipped in $500 as did the NWLLC and the laundromat has hosted the project on the third Wednesday of the month ever since.

This month, Poulsbo Lions spent $554.50 (which includes a $10 donation a person at the laundromat handed us) serving 41 people.
We washed 143 loads (47 small, 9 medium and 26 large), and dried 67 loads.

We happily accept donations of laundry pods, bleach, vinegar and money. Everything may be dropped off at John L. Scott Real Estate on 10th Avenue (care of Lion Dennis Deitch), or brought to the laundromat between 2 and 6 p.m. the 3rd Wednesday of any month. Thank you!

At 84 years old, Lion Dennis Tesch shows up monthly to help put quarters into dryers.

ShareNet reaps 1,052 from Lions' Firehouse Garden

These two are trouble in the ShareNet Food Bank parking lot. Volunteer Sylvie Blais brought in 13 lbs of fresh produce that she and her mom, Lion Terry Blais, just harvested. Lydia is always there at ShareNet to accept it.

Our Poulsbo Lions Firehouse Garden total pounds of veggies donated this year: 1,052.

Chalk up another 15 pounds of fresh veggies for ShareNet

Here we are in the middle of October and still harvesting veggies from the Firehouse Garden for ShareNet Food Bank. Today we got celery, mini peppers, tomatoes, an onion and some squash, totaling 15 pounds.

Six years of clean laundry for the unhoused and needy

It's hard to believe it's already been 6 years that we've been doing our Loads of Change service project. So many Lions and friends have volunteered, and so many people in our community have been helped. When we started, we were only spending around $100 a month. Now that number is between $500 and $600. We offer the unhoused and needy in North Kitsap laundry services, taking care of laundry detergent, fabric softener and often other items such as clean socks, toiletries, gloves and more.

Our next Loads of Change is Weds., Oct. 16, from 2-6 p.m. at the Village Laundromat in the Poulsbo Village Shopping Center.
Donations are always appreciated. They may be dropped off at John L. Scott Real Estate attn: Dennis Deitch.

Veggie donations grow over 1,000 lb mark

We're pretty proud of this accomplishment! A handful of Lions have put in many hours planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and driving fresh, chemical-free veggies to ShareNet Food Bank from our Firehouse Garden. More veggies are still to come....

Recycle your eyeglasses and sunglasses

Poulsbo Lions Karl and Pauline Ostheller delivered 1,570 pairs of eyeglasses to the Northwest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (LERC) Sept. 28. It was a 150-mile roundtrip, taking 3 hours. The Osthellers took 1,200 eyeglasses to LERC in August.

LERC provides used eyeglasses free of charge to people in remote areas of developing countries, delivered at the hands of volunteer eye care professionals.

Firehouse Garden produces another 10 pounds of fresh veggies

Sylvie Blais rescues what spinach she can from little slugs munching on our greens Tuesday morning. Sylvie and Terry Blais harvested another 10 lbs from the Firehouse Garden for ShareNet Food Bank.
Clients may enjoy fresh spinach, arugula, chard, celery, tomatoes and mini peppers. The garden just keeps on giving!
