Wheelchair van finds new owner

 

A Bainbridge Island family donated a wheelchair van they no longer needed, and it went to a local family who did have a need for it.  Jim Sund at North Kitsap Auto Rebuild fixed the fender at a greatly reduced cost to assist in this effort.

2015 Viking Fest activities for our club

 

This year's Viking Fest featured many new events, such as a donut-eating contest, paddleboard contest and bike tour, but our pancake breakfast has been a mainstay for 44 years. This year, $5,500 was raised for North Kitsap area scholarships at the breakfast. The Raab Foundation added $3,000, so six students will be receiving scholarships varying from $750 to $2,000 when they're invited to join us at a noon meeting.

 

 

The local Vikings LOVE our pancake breakfast, and come every year.

Ginger Shields headed up our Strawberry Shortcake booth again on the waterfront, bringing in close to $700.

Mike Alvarado and Michele Grenier were set up in one corner of the Commons to conduct vision screenings for Evening Pride.

 

 

We usually cap off Saturday with a Lions float in the parade, handing out candy. The float was ready, but the pickup wouldn't start.

One more Lion on The Lions Journey

 

Congrats to Lion Larry Linn for earning this award - The Lions Journey for Service, Growth and Leadership - presented to him by President Dennis Peters at our May 14 meeting.

Postal food drive nets tons

Members of the Lions and other volunteers helped pick-up food from the Poulsbo Post Office food drive that collected food for NK Food Bank. Above middle and right, Lions Steve Calhoun and Linda Burris (also a Fishline employee). Burris said 10,700 pounds of food was picked up!

 

Postal employees picked up food left by customers along their postal routes. Lions and volunteers were asked to drive routes where the postal employees didn't want to pick up the food.

 

A great haul that helped to fill the food bank shelves.

Collecting donations for sight

 

Leo (aka Ginger Shields) and Steve Calhoun took the first shift at the Poulsbo Farmers Market - our first time here for White Cane Days May 1 and 2. Our Poulsbo Noon Club collected more than $2,800 over the two days, while the Evening Pride Branch Club collected $1,700+ in the Kingston area.

You don't have to be a Poulsbo Lion to help out! The entire Vincent family - Kelley, Eric and little Regan - collected donations at Albertson's for our club.

 

 

Chase and Sylvie Blais helped out (which happens when your mom is co-chair of the event), and their cousin, Regan Vincent, stayed on for another hour so she could be with them at Albertson's.

 

Jim Stark shook down people at the post office. It's one of our best sites for donations!
