Wreath sponsor deadline now Nov. 29

Great news! The deadline for wreath sponsorships has been extended through Giving Tuesday, Nov 29 at midnight (32 to go). Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

We've added American Legion Post 245 to our Bellringer Fund

This year the Poulsbo Lions Raab Foundation Bellringer Fund is adding American Legion Post 245 of Poulsbo to its supported charities. This organization might not be well known but it has been
in existence since 1942 and has been active in providing services to veterans of our armed forces in the North Kitsap community.

Most visibly, with the assistance of the Poulsbo Lions and Leo Clubs, they have placed wreaths on veteran graves at the Poulsbo Municipal Cemetery, Vinland Lutheran Church, and Evergreen Breidablik cemeteries on Memorial Day and Christmas. They also built the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Poulsbo.
Additional ongoing programs include Veterans Service Office assistance for Veterans and their families; Scholarships for Veterans or family members; Meal vouchers or gift cards throughout the year; Rehabilitation of wheelchairs and other medical assistance equipment; Visitation to Veterans at assisted living and nursing homes providing health and comfort bags and any other needs not provided by the facilities; With the assistance of local Boy Scouts they have removed barriers for disabled veterans in
their homes; Member of the Kitsap Area Veterans Alliance.

With additional funding from the Bellringer Fund they hope to expand services to include utility assistance and other short term financial needs for Veterans. If you would like to learn more about this organization you can visit their website at www.alpost245poulsbowa.org.

Donations to the Bellringer Fund can be mailed to P.O. Box 1244, Poulsbo, WA 98370, via PayPal at poulsbolions@gmail.com or click the link to the right.

2022 Bellringer kicks off with addition of Poulsbo American Legion

It's time for our 2022 Poulsbo Lions Raab Foundation Bellringer!

Here's some history: In the mid 1940’s the Bellringer Fund was started by Frank and Mabel Raab. Frank was a charter member of the Poulsbo Lions Club and challenged the club and North Kitsap community to help those families in need during the Christmas holiday. The proceeds of the fund drive were used by the Lions Club to purchase food and gifts for families in need. Members of the Lions Club then distributed these items. The Kitsap County Herald helped with the challenge by publishing the donations and followed the actions of the Lions. Local churches and similar organizations provided the lists of families. The fund drive has run uninterrupted since.

In recent years the Bellringer Fund has ceased direct purchases of food and gifts. The donations are now distributed to agencies in the community that have the ability to do more with the funds received. Last year the Bellringer Fund received more than $18,000 in donations that were distributed to Fishline, ShareNet,St. Vincent DePaul at St Olafs and Coffee Oasis.

The goal for this year is $25,000.
This year, in addition to Fishline, ShareNet, St. Vincent DePaul and Coffee Oasis, we are adding Poulsbo American Legion Post 245. Post 245 provides services to Veterans in the North Kitsap
community.

To make a donation it can be mailed to: Lions Club Bellringer Fund, P.O. Box 1244, Poulsbo, WA 98370 or paid via PayPal at poulsbolions@gmail.com. A link is also available at poulsbolions.blogspot.com.

More sponsors sought for Poulsbo veteran wreaths for Christmas

We need about 30 sponsors for Poulsbo wreathes on veteran graves for Christmas. The email address is http://www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org/WAPMCC

Thanks to all who helped make this a success in our community. It started out to see if there was interest to expanding to other cemeteries in North Kitsap. Evergreen Breidablik and Vinland Lutheran Church cemeteries have joined the umbrella.

NK LEOs busy planting trees and working book sale

The NK LEO club spent Saturday, Nov. 19, volunteering on two projects. The morning was spent planting trees at Fish Park under the direction of Leah of Americorps and Steve Calhoun. The other was helping the Friends of the Library with their book sale from 11-3 pm. There were 7 LEOs at the tree planting and 6 LEOs working at the book sale.

The trees being planted are in the form of cottonwood stakes, as seen in the wheelbarrow, which take root quickly and are used to stabilize the surrounding area.

American flags throughout Poulsbo

Lion Kevin Hogan puts up a flag

In honor of Veterans Day, Poulsbo Lions set up flags around Poulsbo. Lions also place flags all over Poulsbo on 10 others holidays throughout the year. It's beautiful!

Lions are out getting flag contracts now. Please contact Dick Prine or Dennis Deitch (360-271-1590) if you'd like one out front of your business. It's only $50 a year for one flag. You can pay by clicking the link in the right-hand column.
