Save your eyeglasses for us

Your old pair of glasses can change someone else’s life.

Poulsbo Lions collect hundreds of used eyeglasses every year. These glasses are cleaned, graded, and sent to communities where access to vision care is limited or unaffordable.

Who do they help?
- Children struggling to learn at school because they can’t see the board.
- Adults whose vision challenges limit their ability to work.
- Seniors who have lived years with blurry vision simply because glasses are out of reach.
- Remote and under-served communities.

Your old glasses don’t belong in a drawer — they can restore independence, improve education, and open doors.

Here are where we have eyeglass collection boxes:

Eyeglasses get new life at Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center

1,450 pairs of eyeglasses were driven down to the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (LERC) in Lacey, WA, by Poulsbo Lions Karl and Pauline Ostheller and Pat Rae recently. LERC is where Lions Clubs collect and process used eyeglasses and hearing aids for recycling.

We collect eyeglasses, including sunglasses and readers, as well as hearing aids all year long. LEO students help sort them, and we take them to LERC where the prescriptions are read, and the glasses are cleaned and labeled. Then they go with eye care professionals to places like Guatemala where a simple pair of reading glasses can change someone's life.

Eyeglass & Hearing Aid Drop Sites in the area include:

Poulsbo:
NK Fishline, Viking Ave
Pacific Eye Care, 20669 Bond Rd NE
Poulsbo Eyecare Center, 19220 8th Ave NE
Poulsbo Library, 700 NE Lincoln Way
Walmart, 21200 Olhava Way NE

20-20 Eyecare, 25989 Barber Cut-off Rd

Bainbridge Island:

And you're always welcome to hand eyeglasses and hearing aids to a Lion at any of our events or meetings (which you're welcome to attend every Thursday from 12-1:15 pm at Vinland Lutheran Church, 2750 NW Finn Hill Rd., Poulsbo).

Shields receives zone chair plaque

Past District Governor Al Hedstrom gave Ginger Shields, our outgoing zone chair, a plaque for being Zone Chairman 2015-2016 at our August 4 lunch meeting.

Also, Poulsbo Lions took 650 pairs of eyeglasses to the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center recently.

We have several things coming up, including continued work on the Fish Park boardwalk (it'll be completed Saturday), and a free pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m. at North Kitsap High School August 30 for teachers and staff.
