Trout arrive April 24 and clean-up around pond follows

Our annual Hooked on Fish fishing derby is an event kids and their families look forward to every year. This year, the fishing derby falls on Saturday, April 27, and will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Horticulture Pond, which is near the entrance of Poulsbo Middle School.

Kids aged 12 and under fish for free. Poulsbo Lions will be on hand to loan out fishing poles, add hooks, bobbers and bait, or just offer advice and encouragement.

Leos from North Kitsap High and Poulsbo Middle schools will be selling doughnuts, coffee, cocoa and water.

Poulsbo Lions spent $1,500 on trout this year as for the past couple of years so that kids could hook "lunkers" as well as regularly-sized trout. The fish will go into the pond April 24. Lions will form a work party after their meeting April 25 to weed-eat and clean-up around the pond so there's less brush for hooks and lines to get caught in.

Service project helps 34 people with laundry

Dawn finishes folding her laundry at yesterday's Loads of Change. Poulsbo Lions spent $438.50 ($25.75 from Lions' donations and $7.50 from a man who donated his leftover change at the laundromat). We served 34 people, washing 72 loads and drying 75 loads.

Lions Ray and Ria McMahon were on hand as usual, with Terry Blais. Dennis Tesch and Lee Metcalf helped too.

Also, we found that Faith Episcopal (across from Taco Time) offers Fresh Start Mondays, where anyone in need can take a shower, do laundry and enjoy lunch in the parish hall. The church also offers clean clothes, hygiene items and food to go!

Lions & Spaghetti make for a wonderful duo

We want to thank our guests and fellow Lions for a wonderful evening sharing projects and fundraisers, Leo Clubs and more! Dan Holt made a tasty spaghetti and meatball dinner with garlic bread and salad, and Terry Blais put together a slide show from the past year's activities.

For those who couldn't attend tonight, we hope you'll join us at our next membership event, meeting or activity. We meet every Thursday (except holidays) at Vinland Lutheran Church, 2750 NW Finn Hill Rd, Poulsbo, from 12:15-1:15 p.m. We welcome you to join us! We'll have coffee, water and cookies available, and you can bring a lunch.

It was a beautiful day to pick up litter along the Hwy 305/Hwy 3 interchanges. We have a new, fearless leader in Gretchen Dunmire. She led 10 Lions and a volunteer today. This service project took 35 hours to complete and filled 46 bags!

Our Lions clean up these areas every quarter. In addition, we pick up litter on Viking Way every 6 months.

Poulsbo Lions welcome Jeff Olson to our club! Jeff and his wife live in Silverdale, having moved recently from Iowa. He works at Edward Jones with another Poulsbo Lion, Glenn Anderson. Jeff's Dad was a Lion.
