Lions support 8 global causes

Being a Poulsbo Lion isn't just about going to a meeting and hearing a speaker every week. There's a social component - we enjoy ballgames, Christmas parties, Steak Night, and more. But we're a community service club.

Poulsbo Lions support 8 causes:

1. Childhood Cancer - We collect and take stuffies to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital.
2. Diabetes - We support Camp Leo for kids with Type 1 diabetes. The camp educates kids and gives them support.
3. Disaster Relief - We give support where needed.
4. Environment - We help with local parks and pick up litter.
5. Humanitarian - We address a health/human need helping a vulnerable population clean clothes and bedding with our Loads of Change service project.
6. Hunger - Our Firehouse Garden provides organic, nutritious food to ShareNet Food Bank and we contribute funds and labor to Fishline.
7. Vision - We screen children's eyes all year long, provide free eye exams and glasses to low-income individuals, and support cornea transplants.
8. Youth - We empower young people through Leo Clubs that encourage leadership and positive choices. They hold blood drives, cancer walks, collect clothing for the needy, etc.
I invite you to an upcoming Thursday meeting to check us out. We meet from 12-1:15 pm at Vinland Lutheran Church, 2750 NW Finn Hill Rd., Poulsbo.
Or, you may attend an Poulsbo Evening Pride Branch Club meeting the 1st or 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm at Western Red Brewing, 19168 Jensen Way NE, Poulsbo.

Show community pride with American flag fundraiser program

Lion Lee Metcalf and volunteer Eric Blais put away flags

Poulsbo Lions set up and take down American flags on 11 national holidays throughout the year. This is a fundraiser that helps us continue our service work.

Local businesses can sponsor a flag for $50 a year and Lions will install a flag in front of your store, continuing a tradition that is both meaningful and visually uplifting. (Special note: Dick Prine, who recently passed, is the Lion who started our flag program in the mid-1970s.)

You may join our flag program by contacting Dennis Deitch at (360) 271-1590.

Clean laundry success with candy and donations

We had a successful and busy Loads of Change today with lots of new faces and some early Halloween candy. We spent $721.25 (which includes individual Lion donations of $26, as well as a couple of donations of quarters totaling $15.25 from people at the laundromat!), helped 28 people do laundry for 59 people. That was 166 washing machine loads and 115 dryer loads.

Many thanks to our Kingston Cares lady for her donation of laundry pods and Tide sink washing kits, as well as Lion Pat Rae for a big roll of trash bags, and to Lion Ray McMahon for LOTS of candy.

Special thanks to Lions Ray, Michele Grenier, Lee Metcalf, Pat, Ken Hatton, Dennis Tesch and Terry Blais for their volunteer hours.

Fishing derby date set for April 25, 2026

We have a date for our next FREE Hooked on Fish Fishing Derby - Saturday, April 25, from 7 am to 1 pm at the Horticulture Pond by Poulsbo Middle School.

As in previous years, Poulsbo Lions will stock the pond with trout, including lunkers! Kids aged 12 and under may fish for FREE. Lions have fishing poles, bait and tackle available, as well as assistance. Heck, we'll even clean your trout for you!

North Kitsap Leos will be on hand to sell donuts, coffee, water and more as a fundraiser for their club.

Lions welcome new member

Welcome to our newest Poulsbo Lion, Jenny Olson, who is sponsored by Elda Armstrong.

Jenny said she joined Lions to give back to the community and to spend more time with her husband, Jeff. They have two kids, Avery and Matthew. Jenny was born in Kitsap County. She now works for 360 Realty Group.
