It was a beautiful day to pick up litter along the Hwy 305/Hwy 3 interchanges. We have a new, fearless leader in Gretchen Dunmire. She led 10 Lions and a volunteer today. This service project took 35 hours to complete and filled 46 bags!

Our Lions clean up these areas every quarter. In addition, we pick up litter on Viking Way every 6 months.

Highway interchanges are clean once again

Is it wrong to enjoy a nice stroll along the highway while picking up litter? Our club doesn't think so. We clean up three different Highway 3/Highway 305 interchanges every quarter, and it only takes about 90 minutes from start to finish. Above, you'll see Eric Blais and Chuck Weaver chatting and picking up garbage. Eric found an unopened pack of Red Bulls. Chuck found a couple of coins. But Joe Stenstrom found BMW keys and fob. Now to find the car....

Pat Burch found $10... Monopoly money. Pat and Sherri got everybody new pinchers. They're fabulous!

The one non-Lion helping out, Eric Blais, took this photo (left to right): Karl Ostheller, Chuck Weaver, Terry Blais, Eric Thanem, Lynnea Heerman, Joe Stenstrom, Denise Zaske, Sherri and Pat Burch.

Chuck, Karl and Eric cleaned up the first highway interchange.

Sherri, Joe and Denise cleaned up the third interchange and wait for Pat and his crew to arrive. It was a 70-degree, sunny day.

Lions spend Earth Day cleaning up interchanges

Happy Earth Day! Our club completed another highway litter clean-up. Seven people showed up and it took just over an hour. Even the rain held off until we were done. Our three interchanges are spotless! In the photo above, from left to right: Lions Chuck Weaver, Sherri Burch, Terry Blais, Larry Linn, Eric Thanem and Pat Burch.

Our Adopt-a-Highway areas were pretty clean. We left only four white bags of trash behind with a couple of larger pieces of plastic.

Lion Chuck looked oh so pretty with his found bow.

We cleaned up a 2nd time

Forms were signed, vests on and signs loaded into vehicles to get started with our second Adopt-a-Highway clean-up on Friday, February 7. We have two Poulsbo Lions Club Adopt-a-Highway signs off of Highway 3 now!

The morning was about teamwork. It took six people less than 2 hours from start to finish to clean up three highway interchanges.

President Pat Burch braved the cold to help pick up litter.

The find of the day goes to Lion Joe Stenstrom - he found $12!

There were some rather large pieces of debris on Highway 3, including an Adopt a Highway sign. Our club will picker up litter once a quarter to help keep our highways clean.
