Pancakes: A Viking Fest tradition and $10k in scholarships!

Miss Poulsbo Kaitlyn Morrell oversees Little Miss Poulsbo Olivia Jensen
as she learns the secrets of making perfect pancakes!
Poulsbo Noon Lions are giving out $10,000 in scholarships this year! Thanks to everyone who came and ate at our pancake breakfast at NK High May 21 and 22.

This event was chaired by Scott Puhn and John Macdonald. They secured $1,600 from sponsors (many thanks to First Security Bank, Grunden's, Liberty Bay Auto, Modern Dentistry and the Clearwater Casino. If you get the opportunity, please thank these businesses for helping us help student scholars!).

The scholarship recipients (four at $2,000 each and two at $1,000 each) won't be named until after their schools' awards nights. One special $2,000 scholarship given this year is in memory of Jim Stark, our club president who recently passed away.

Volunteer Kelley Vincent shows off the great-looking pancakes coming off of the grills at the pancake breakfast Saturday morning. Chase Blais, 17, is on the left.

The breakfast grossed $9,588, and the club had a large expense to deal with ($1,350 to repair the 1940s mixer), but the Raab Foundation contributed $4,000, along with $2,000 donated for the Jim Stark Scholarship.

Lion Dick Prine whips up another batch of batter in the rehabbed mixer.

Sylvie Blais, 15, served up warm butter and syrup - a crowd favorite!

Nothing is better than a good breakfast with friends!

Sponsors like First Security Bank helped offset some costs and enable us to give more scholarships.

Sponsorships added $1,600 to the pancake breakfast budget.

Many thanks to the local businesses that supported our club!
