Favorite thing: Helping the unhoused and needy with clean laundry

We started Loads of Change in 2018 on the third Wednesday of every month and it's been going strong ever since.

 

Loads of Change Christmas event features pizza, presents and clean laundry, of course!

It was a magical night in the Village Laundromat. Well, not really. After all, it's a laundromat.

But Poulsbo Lions brought wrapped presents for some of our Loads of Change clients who'd signed up for things they needed last month (for many it's their only Christmas present), Ray bought 10 pizzas that were quickly devoured, Sharmon dropped by with several packages of cookies and mozzarella cheese sticks, we had 48 pairs of thermal socks, along with body wipes, toothbrushes, toilet paper, paper towels and many other items.

Many of our unhoused and low-income clients were blessed with propane and Safeway gift cards (for gas or groceries). By the end of the night, we'd gone through $930 ($330 was donations) for 40 people doing laundry for 64, washed 200 loads and dried 142.

You're welcome to a Poulsbo Lions meeting. Our Noon Club meets from 12-1 every Thursday at Vinland Lutheran Church, and our Evening Pride Branch Club meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at7 pm either at Western Red Brewing.

 

PMS Leos complete winter clothing drive

Poulsbo Middle School Leos completed their winter clothing drive collecting socks and boots among other things.

The recipients of these items are the Severe Weather facilities in Silverdale and Kingston as well as Georgia's House, a home for battered women and their children.

Bellringer climbs to $6,900

Your old pair of glasses can change someone else’s life.

 

Poulsbo Lions collect hundreds of used eyeglasses every year. These glasses are cleaned, graded, and sent to communities where access to vision care is limited or unaffordable.

 

Who do they help?

- Children struggling to learn at school because they can’t see the board.

- Adults whose vision challenges limit their ability to work. 

- Seniors who have lived years with blurry vision simply because glasses are out of reach.

- Remote and under-served communities.

 

Your old glasses don’t belong in a drawer — they can restore independence, improve education, and open doors.

NKHS Leos help set up wreaths for Wreaths Across America at Poulsbo Cemetery

Ten North Kitsap High School Leos helped set up at the "Wreaths Across America" event at the Poulsbo Municipal Cemetery Dec. 13.

Lion Linda Schwind of American Legion Post 245 gave a message of the service our veterans have given our country which was then followed by placing wreaths upon their graves.

Lions round up 80 stuffies for Seattle Children's Hospital

Poulsbo Lions have rounded up 80 stuffed animals for Lion David Damazo to deliver to the kids at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Our Christmas Loads of Change is in one week

 

Our next Loads of Change is coming up - Weds., Dec. 17. It's a special one for many who came last month because we have some goodies (after all, Christmas is coming up!).

 

Donations are always welcome - anything from laundry detergent pods to fabric softener and big trash bags for clean clothes.

 

This month, we'll have thermal socks, toothbrushes/toothpaste and soap to hand out among other things. 

 

Donations may be brought to the laundromat on Wednesday when we're there, or taken to Dennis Deitch at John L. Scott Real Estate on 10th Avenue in Poulsbo. Thanks!

Look for Lions at Poulsbo's Safeway Saturday

Lions will be at Safeway in Poulsbo tomorrow (Sat., Dec. 13) collecting food and money for Fishline from 11-3 pm.

Wreaths Across America and food drive Dec. 13

 Just a reminder - on Sat., Dec. 13, we have Wreaths Across America at the Poulsbo Cemetery on Caldart Avenue to put wreaths on veteran graves, and we'll have Lions at Safeway from 11 am to 3 pm collecting food/money donations for Fishline Food Bank.
