Lions collect for Fishline Sat., Dec. 13

 

Join us this Saturday, December 13th for Shop & Share Saturday at Safeway in Poulsbo with Poulsbo Lions Club!

Starting at 11 AM, Fishline staff and Poulsbo Lions volunteers will be on-site collecting donations of non-perishable items for our market. We’ve made it easy to give back—just pick up or purchase one of our most-needed items while you shop and drop it off at our table. Helping your neighbors has never been more convenient!

Our three most needed items this week are:

• Protein drinks
• Coffee/Tea
• Canned chicken/beef

Bellringer Fund lagging

Funds are trickling in (as of today we have $3,700) so we need a big PUSH! Our Raab Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that benefits so many vulnerable neighbors. Please make a donation today. You'll be helping youth at Poulsbo's Coffee Oasis, veterans via American Legion Post 245, and the needy via Fishline Food Bank, ShareNet Food Bank and St. Vincent de Paul.

Busy week for Poulsbo Lions

 

We have lots going on, with so many choices in how you can socialize and serve! This week we have our annual Christmas party Thursday at the casino, then we'll be putting wreaths on veterans graves at several locations, with the biggest at Poulsbo Cemetery on Caldart Ave. (Wreaths Across America), and finally we'll be collecting food and money for Fishline Food Bank at Safeway from 11-3 pm Saturday.

Recognizing Leos and Lions on Volunteer Day

 We're so proud of our Leo to Lion, Emalee Burgh.

Happy International Volunteer Day & International Leo Day!! 

With today being a celebration of both volunteers and Leos, it feels quite fitting to highlight the Service point of the crown, as Leo Club is where my Service journey began to take flight.

In fifth grade, I recall poring over my older sister's yearbook with the hopes of gathering all the intel one might need for the plunge into middle school. A sea of neon green shirts caught my attention--the Poulsbo Middle School Leo Club. Months later, I found myself sitting at a table in that same club, donning a neon green t-shirt, and eagerly listening to my favorite teacher tell us about our new volunteer project.

Participation in Leo Club has taught me how to lead with grace, empathy, and quiet strength. It encouraged me to utilize my passions to connect with peers and discover an abundance of opportunities to serve in my community. As a Leo, I learned to home in on servant leadership and share the benefits of youth volunteerism and intergenerational service projects. I always enjoy the opportunity to share how much being a Leo has impacted my life.

And now, in my ninth year of service with Lions Club International, I continue serving my community as a Leo-to-Lion with the Poulsbo Noon Lions and as a Leo-to-Lion Liaison with District 19N. This service organization continues to deepen my empathy and the heart I wear on my sleeve. Lions are a family; they make you feel at home.

At this year's competition, I recall glancing into the audience and seeing a handful of Lions waving their program books in the air as they cheered on every candidate who graced the stage, then jumping out of their seats when my name was called as Miss West Sound 2026. The title of Miss West Sound 2026 is already such an honor, but every time I place the sash across my chest, it feels like an extra special hug because the Poulsbo Noon Lions sponsored the title. Every appearance feels like a beautiful blend of my "why" for serving my community.

To every Leo and Lion around the world and every volunteer striving to make a difference in their community every day, thank you for your kind hearts. You are greatly appreciated. 
 

 

Lions collect donations for food bank at orchestra performances

 Poulsbo Lions will be collecting cash, nonperishable foods and bags at each of the two performances Saturday, Dec. 6. The club has sponsored the Poulsbo Community Orchestra since its inception.

Wreaths Across America locally Dec. 13

Poulsbo Lions and North Kitsap Leos will be putting wreaths on graves the morning of Dec. 13 at Poulsbo Cemetery, Breidablik Evergreen Cemetery and more.

 

Bellringer donations start rolling in

 

Donations are beginning to come in for the Poulsbo Lions Raab Foundation Bellringer Fund, but we need your help to reach our goal. We know this season pulls at your time, attention, and wallet—but even a small gift makes a big difference.

 

Can you spare just $5? If less than one-third of Poulsbo’s residents gave five dollars, we’d meet our $20,000 goal to support local food banks and relief agencies this holiday season.

The greatest gift in Kingston this holiday season isn’t wrapped in paper or tied with ribbons—it’s ShareNet Food Bank. From nourishing families with food to helping with rent, utilities, and school meals for children, ShareNet is a lifeline of hope and generosity.

Since its beginnings in 1993 at Bayside Community Church and now at its home on Barber Cutoff Road, ShareNet has thrived thanks to the kindness of local organizations, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers. Together, they embody the true spirit of the holidays: building a stronger, healthier, and more caring community.

Mark Ince has proudly led ShareNet Food Bank as its executive director since 2008, guiding the organization through changing times and growing needs. Today, with shifts in government programs, ShareNet must purchase more than 65% of the food and personal items it distributes – a challenge made even harder by rising prices year after year. Demand for assistance has climbed more than 10% since 2024, underscoring how vital this resource is for families in Kingston.

Yet even in the face of these challenges, there are bright lights of generosity. Local farms, the Poulsbo Lions’ Firehouse Garden, and caring individuals donated more than 9,000 pounds of fresh produce this year. What was once overlooked has now become the most sought-after gift – fresh fruits and vegetables are the first items to disappear from ShareNet’s shelves, a testament to healthier habits and the community’s commitment to enriching one another. The community also helps by making donations to ShareNet’s thrift store next door. Store sales support the food bank and other functions of the organization.

This holiday season, ShareNet reminds us that the greatest present we can give is hope, health, and compassion. With the support of donors, volunteers, and neighbors like you, Kingston continues to shine as a place where no one is left behind.

Settle hits huge milestone award for years in Poulsbo Lions

Tom Settle joined Poulsbo Lions in 1964 and was a member till 1973. Then he left for a handful of years. He returned in 1980 and has been a Poulsbo Lion ever since, so really this Milestone Award should say 53 years!
