Our Activities

Poulsbo Lions make a difference in the Poulsbo community and North Kitsap. Here are some of our regular activities:

 Adopt-a-Highway
Our club has two highway signs and three interchanges in Poulsbo where we pick up litter every quarter. We started September 2013. We also pick up litter on Viking Avenue twice a year.

Bellringer Fund
Fund-raising primarily occurs during the holiday season. These funds help people with food, rent, gas, bus tickets, etc. The funds go to Fishline Food Bank, ShareNet, and St. Vincent de Paul, The Coffee Oasis in Poulsbo and American Legion Post 245.

Community Calendar - August/mid-September
Lions sell beautiful 12" x 12" photo calendars for $10 apiece. All proceeds goes back into the community. The calendar features photos from around North Kitsap. Photographers may enter as many photos as they please up to July 15. (Ended Dec. 2023)

Community Firehouse Garden
Lions grow fresh vegetables for the Kingston area food bank, Sharenet, at Poulsbo Fire Station located off of 10th Avenue. Last year we contributed 700+ lbs of fresh produce.

Flags
Our club has annual contracts with local businesses to display the American Flag on all national holidays, Patriot Day (Sept. 11), and when events necessitate. This is a great fundraiser for our club.

Hooked on Fish - last Saturday of April
This is a fishing derby for children aged 12 and under. Lions pay to stock the pond behind Poulsbo Middle School with trout. Fish are cleaned for free and refreshments are available to purchase from our NK LEOs. Parents are encouraged to help.  Time: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Loads of Change
Started in October 2018, Poulsbo Lions offer free monthly laundromat services to unhoused and low-income individuals in North Kitsap once a month. We bring detergent and fabric softener, and typically have bottled water, snacks, socks, toiletries and hygiene kits to hand out.

Miss Poulsbo Pageant
The Lions contribute $1,000 annually to the scholarship fund, and assist as ushers.

White Cane Days
Club members collect donations the first Friday and Saturday of every May at various locations in Poulsbo (downtown, Walmart, Town & Country, Red Apple as well as Safeway in Kingston).

PARKS:
Fish Park - Located at Viking Junction, 228 NW Lindvig Way, Poulsbo. The Lions are supporting this community project - a 20.73 acre park - at the head of Liberty Bay. Our club has built several observation platforms, as well as worked on the boardwalk. We are now stewards of the park, taking responsibility for keeping up the last observation deck and surrounding area.

Lions Park - Located on the corner of Fjord Drive and 6th Avenue at 585 Matson Street. Lions Park is one of thousands of parks nationwide donated to our communities as a clean, safe place for family outings. There are tennis courts, a playground, picnic area, winding paths, lawn/sitting area, restrooms.

Nelson Park - Located at Viking Junction, 22989 Viking Way NW, Poulsbo. The Lions are supporting this community project to build a park at the head of Liberty Bay. The Martinson cabin is there. It's a 100-year-old structure that was donated. The Poulsbo Historical Society restored it.
