Show up for shortcake this Viking Fest weekend

There's no excuse for being hungry this weekend during Poulsbo's annual Viking Fest celebration. Our Poulsbo Lions are hosting a Strawberry Shortcake booth downtown for the second year in a row, as well as a terrific pancake breakfast at North Kitsap High School. Proceeds benefits student scholarships.

Pulling in bigger numbers for White Canes

Lions from Poulsbo Noon and Evening Pride were out in force for White Cane Days May 3 and 4 around North Kitsap. Even the weather cooperated, giving us a hot and sunny days. Above, a woman puts money in a jar held by new Lion Janetmarie Valiga at the post office.

Lion Pat Burch put in his time at the Poulsbo Albertson's. A total of 37 Lions worked over the two days, with 32 of them on the streets. Five staffed the office and provided support while counting the cash. The average collected per Lion was $127.63, with a grand total of $3,957.53. That's an increase of more than 40 percent over 2012, when we had 25 Lions out collecting.

Newest Poulsbo Lion member: Marian Phillips

Lion Joe Stenstrom places a pin on our newest member's yellow vest. Marian Phillips retired from umpiring and works in detention at the local middle school.

Dottie's our Lion of the Quarter

Lion Dottie Ridgeway was named Lion of the Quarter by King Lion Ginger Shields at an Evening Pride Branch meeting recently. Though Dottie is a member of the Evening Pride Branch, she attends almost all of the Poulsbo Noon meetings as well.
