A special visitor to the Strawberry Shortcake booth

This 'lady in waiting' stopped at our Strawberry Shortcake booth Saturday at the waterfront and talked about her costume and its history.

She did not buy any strawberry shortcake, but did attract several others that did!

Our strawberry shortcake booth brought in net proceeds of $820.93. Lion Ginger  Shields headed up the booth with set-up and take-down help from her hubby, Jim, and Lions Chuck Weaver and Tom Settle. Several Lions helped from Friday thru Sunday. Below are Lions Larry Linn and Sherri Burch.

Youth Exchange families sought

The Lions Youth Exchange Program is in need of host families for 2-3 weeks this summer for several young people visiting from Europe and Japan. Host families must be sponsored by a Lions Club, but do not need to be Lions members themselves. If you know of someone that would make an ideal host family for our program, please pass the word along to them immediately!

Thank you Lions!

New Lions - Lawson and Chatman

Two new Lions just got inducted with their sponsors by their sides - (left to right) sponsor Greg Supancheck (a new Lion!) brought in Frank Lawson, and Dwane Chatman was brought in by Chuck Weaver. It's GREAT to be a Poulsbo Lion!

Hat and apron made for Norseman

We've got the Norseman himself advertising our pancake breakfast and Strawberry Shortcake booth this weekend! Gotta love that. Lion Pauline Ostheller sewed the apron and Lion Elda Armstrong made the chef's hat - XXXXXXL? It's BIG.

For $5 a kid and $7 an adult, you can eat pancakes (plain, chocolate chip and blueberry!), sausage, eggs (scrambled or made to order), and enjoy orange juice, coffee and milk. It's a full-meal deal that brings in money for high school scholarships. Hope to see you there!

Thanks Liberty Bay Auto!

Our incredibly yummy pancake breakfast is coming up next weekend! Thanks to Liberty Bay Auto for advertising our event for us, and to Lion June Cotner for taking the photo. We hope to see you all at the North Kitsap High School Commons next Saturday and Sunday (it's so good, you'll want to eat there BOTH days!).

* 4 Lions worked 4 hours each - Herb and Elda Armstrong, President Pat Burch, Mike Alvarado, and Lynnea Heerman
* 3 Lions worked 3 hours each - Ginger as Leo the Lion, and Chuck Weaver and Pat Osler.
* 3 of our newest members earned a big white cane - Duane Chatman, Steve Calhoun, and Dennis Deitch.

Great Give results

60 people donated $3,500 to NK Schools Foundation during the Kitsap Great Give May 6. That's BEFORE matching funds! So the total is approximately $7,000. Whoo hoo!

Kitsap Great Give is TODAY!

Today's the day to give!

The North Kitsap Schools Foundation is participating in the Kitsap Great Give, a 24-hour online fund-raising event presented by the Kitsap Community Foundation and the United Way of Kitsap County.

One of the things that makes this community-wide day of giving so exciting is that donations to NKSF and other participating nonprofits will be matched by more than $100,000 from Great Give sponsors.

Here's what you can do to help: Go to http://kitsapgreatgive.org/#npo/north-kitsap-schools-foundation between midnight and 11:59 p.m. and make a tax-deductible donation to NK Schools Foundation. Tell your friends, colleagues and family about this opportunity to be part of the biggest day of philanthropy in Kitsap County history.

All donations, plus our share of the matching funds, support NK students and help bridge the gap between state funding and local needs. Since 2012, the foundation has given $70,000 to local schools to provide direct support to students who are underperforming in math, reading and science; fund STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs, and restore services affected by budget cuts.

Thank you for your support!

White Canes May 2-3

Lions Scott Puhn and Mike Regis pull first shift at Albertson's for White Cane Days Saturday, May 3.

Always a good sign. Pun intended.

Our Lions staff: (front) Dottie Ridgeway and Claudia Dierking; (back) President Pat, June Cotner, and Sherri Burch. We were able to use an empty office space near Azteca for White Cane Days. Lions could grab a bottle of water and a cookie, an apron and an empty container for donations.

Not a Lion, though she's big in Lion spirit, Regan Vincent (age 7) collected donations in front of Albertson's from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. She collected $56 and a frosted sugar cookie with sprinkles.

Lion Sherri Burch chaired White Canes this year, 33 Lions helped out, eyeglasses were collected for recycling, and a grand total of $3,646.26 was collected over the two days.

Club receives Founders Patch

George Dierking (left), president of the West Sound Branch of Lions Project New Hope Northwest, presents President Pat with the Joel Graves Founders patch at today's noon meeting for our $500 contribution.

Three Poulsbo Lions earn blue vests

We have 3 new Lions who've earned their permanent blue vests. President Pat handed out "coupons" good for the vests since they've been ordered but aren't here yet. From left to right: Lions Steve Calhoun, Dennis Deitch, and Greg Supancheck.

Also, at the noon meeting, we found out that Fish Park has a lot fewer blackberry branches thanks to the hard work of Lions Karl and Pauline Ostheller, Steve Calhoun, Dennis Peters, and Rich Colpitts, who pulled a bunch out this past weekend.
