Lions shop for 100 holiday food baskets

Poulsbo Lion rapidly filled carts at three local grocery stores (Central Market shown here, as well as Albertson's and Red Apple) with the contents for 100 Holiday Food Baskets.

Lions Matt (with the antlers) and Mike Alvarado unload the carts for the cashier.

Lions Dick Prine and Candy Peters check their shopping lists to make sure families have everything they need for a holiday feast (and then some!).

Lion Jim Stark led the Central Market shoppers.

Now you may contribute to Bellringer Fund online!

With our Bellringer campaign already underway to help the needy in the North Kitsap Community, the Poulsbo Lions/Raab Foundation now has a new way you can contribute.

You may still send donations to the Poulsbo Lions/Raab Foundation at PO Box 1244, Poulsbo, WA  98370.

You may still walk in your donation to the North Kitsap Herald.

But what's more convenient than sitting at home and clicking a couple computer keys? You may choose any amount to pay via Paypal.

We're still striving to hit our $35,000 goal this year. Currently, we are just over $10,000. When you give a gift this year, consider a donation to the Bellringer Fund.

First annual dinner/auction nets $9,600 for community groups

Two special board meetings with member input took place to decide how to spend the proceeds of the first annual September Fall Fling dinner/auction.
After all expenses of the fund-raiser were paid, $9,600+ was left to distribute.

At the first board meeting, it was agreed to send $1,000 to LCIF - designating it for Philippines disaster relief and counting toward our club's Melvin Jones Fellowship award. Another $500 was donated to EMPACT Northwest, a group of local firefighters who went to the Philippines to help with disaster relief. And $1,000 was given to the Poulsbo Police Department to help pay for a heroin-sniffing dog the department has acquired.

At the second special board meeting, the following disbursements were agreed upon:
  • $1,700 added to the Hearing Aids fund
  • $3,500 put in reserve
  • $1,000 to help Fishline move into its new building on Viking Avenue
  • $1,000 for a Poulsbo symphony orchestra (if it indeed does form)
  • $500 for Sound Works
